i just finished reading water for elephants.
i must admit that i was initially hesitant to read this book, because i tend to stay away from books that receive too much hype. however, i ended up really enjoying it - for the most part.
if you don’t already know, most of the story is a love story that takes place at a circus in the 1930s. i found the story about the circus fascinating, and the animal cruelty was incredibly heartbreaking.
although i enjoyed most of the book, i thought the end was a bit realistic, and everything tied up too neatly.
i give it 3 out of 5 stars.
if you have read water for elephants (and even if you haven’t), i highly recommend reading sophie’s choice by william styron. the relationship between jacob and marlena + august in water for elephants is incredibly similar to the relationship between the three main characters in sophie’s choice.
