i just finished reading a visit from the goon squad by jennifer egan, which just won the pulitzer. as soon as i finished this book, i wanted to start at the beginning and read it all over again. it’s that good. this book is about a series of intertwined characters who are all somehow involved in the music industry spanning from the 70s to sometime in the near future. each chapter is told from the perspective of a different character as they meditate on the passage of time and how it affects their perspectives and their goals in life. even though this novel is not linear, it still maintains its fluidity and in the end you feel satisfied that everything has come together and that you’ve read one story rather than a series of fractured pieces of a story. the characters in this book are all unique, and egan’s writing style is creative while still being easy to read. i highly recommend this book, it’s one of the best i’ve read this year.
next up: tropic of cancer by henry miller.
